Food, Herbs & Natural Remedies
‘My interest in organic food and nutrition was sparked after spending time at the Ontos Health Retreat with Nischala Devi in the early 1990s and further kindled when I became friends with Horst Rechelbacher the Founder of Aveda who taught me about personal care products, organics and sustainability.
My research on food, herbs and natural supplements began in earnest when I took up co-authoring the textbook “Herbs and Natural Supplements: An evidenced-based guide” with my first PhD student Lesley Braun in 2001. This required me to dive deeply into nutritional medicine and herbal medicine along with interactions between herbs and drugs.
Since then I have helped write and compile books on natural remedies for Dorland Kindersley and Readers Digest and have conducted research on organic diets and carotenoids and compiled reviews of herbs and supplements such as garlic, rosehip, dunaliella salina, ubiquinol and tulsi, and been involved in clinical trials on glucosamine and chondroitin for osteoarthritis hypericum perforatum and vitex agnus castus for menopause and Chinese herbal medicine for obesity.’
